Brand-new project “Community Oriented ACtions against HIV (C.O.AC.H): prevention and community treatment of HIV and TB/HIV co-infection” was launched yesterday in Machakos, Kenya.

The project, funded by the Italian Government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation AICS (a synergic initiative with The Global Fund) is implemented by Medicus Mundi Italia (MMI) in partnership with the Department of Diagnostics and Public Health of the University of Verona (UNIVR), Deaf Empowerment Kenya (DEK) and the County Directorate of Health, Programs and Partnerships of Machakos (MOH Machakos).
The key objective of this project revolves around connecting existing health services and enhancing the role of local communities, ensuring that the personal, social and territorial contexts in which the people live is at the center. The project uses key approaches to encourage and support adherence to treatment of people living with HIV through individualised pathways of care with specific attention to the most vulnerable and at-risk groups, such as pregnant women, adolescents, and young people.
The ID-CARE team here at the University of Verona will coordinate the implementation of the research study embedded in the project and support the monitoring of key indicators of the project.
